Transforming to 'Best Practice'

Many organizations go through 're-engineering', 'transformation', adopting what could be said as best in class. Best practices are ideal. But most often I think we are blindly looking into an ideal state. And not realizing that best practice may not be what is called for. Understanding the current situation is important to rationalize what 'best practice' is best for us. I have to constantly remind myself of this to stop myself from falling into the allure of 'best practices'.

Here is a good read on the allure and dangers of best practice

Starting my Lean Journey

I've always been very interested in the "lean" perspective. I've read and studied on lean concepts, but I think it takes more than just reading to fully understand what lean really is.  This blog is a personal endeavor to make my lean learning a constant effort and to formalize my discoveries in a blog.

So what do I know of lean so far?

At the most basic: lean is about creating value, and doing away with non-value

Lean is not a methodology, it is not a detailed step-by-step process. It is a mindset, a paradigm, a "way-of-life" (if you must) .

Hopefully, through this blog the concepts, tools and applications of lean will be better explored, and the lean paradigm becomes clearer.
